JACQUELINE CHIOU A Senior at the Academy of Allied Health and Science in Neptune, NJ, this resident of Holmdel's cumulative GPA is 96.24. She is currently a National Merit Finalist and named a Edward J. Bloustein Distinguished Scholar. Jacqueline won first place in Medical Terminology at HOSA at state level and a sixth place nationally. Her school extracurricular activities include Lead French Horn with the NJ State Youth Orchestra, serves as an executive on the board of the Math League, Captain of the Holmdel High School Figure Skating Club, Member and competitor of the Health Occupation Students of America, member of 4-H, Global Affairs, National Honor Society, Spanish Honor Society, and the World Language Club. She attended Columbia University Summer Program: Biomedical Engineering 2008, the Lead America Congressional Student Leadership Conference: National Leadership Summit 2008, Yale University Summer Session 2009 Biology: Molecular, Cellular and Developmental and in the summer of 2009 attended an overseas mentorship at Taipei Hospital, Taiwan, observing surgical procedures and shadowing doctors. Jacqueline's volunteer activities include giving assistance at the Willows (an assisted living home) of Bayshore Community Hospital, assisting also at the Brighton Gardens of Middletown, Sunrise Assisted Living, a youth group mission trip to help build houses for low-income families in Kentucky with the organization LINKS in 2007 and performing at the Tappan Zee Summer Music Festival, 2007 and as a Junior assisting Artist with the Young Players' Philharmonic in Central NJ, 2008. She is basic skills figure skating instructor at Old Bridge Sports Arena Ice Skating Rink and formerly a Junior Coach at Princeton Sports Center. This year she tutored a student with ADHD. She is a member of Upper Mountain Skating Association.

FARYN PEARL Attending Holmdel High School, this senior, a Holmdel resident, has achieved a 4.38 GPA. She has served as Secretary & currently President of Cast for the Theater Guild, Features Editor and Editor-in-Chief of the newspaper, the Sting, a member of the High Honor Roll, the National Latin Honor Society, the National Art Honor Society and National Honor Society, Publicity Vice President of Monmouth Senior Youth Group, Captain of the Holmdel Figure Skating Club (2006-2008), and a Senior Girl Scout Gold Award. Faryn also attended University of Penn Art And Architecture Residence Program the summer of 2008, and attended in the Faryn was employed at the Wall Sports Ice Arena as a Basic Skills Instructor and Junior Coach 2007 – 2009. Her skating career started on Ice-Lantics Synchronized Team. She has passed the Junior Moves in the Field, Novice Free Style and Bronze Dance tests. She has represented Garden State Skating Club at the US National Showcase Championships from 2005 – 2008. KRISTIN YOSHIMURA This Bridgewater resident is a senior attending Bridgewater - Raritan Regional High School. Kristin has earned a 4.04 GPA, is a member of Peer Meditation, National Honor Society, German Honor Society and is a two time winner of the National AATG examination. She plays the trumpet with concert, symphonic, wind, marching and jazz bands, orchestras,and ensembles. She is also a member of her church youth choirs and hand bell choirs. She organized a jazz band session to play at a Habitat for Humanity benefit event and performed in a jazz band for an Eagle Scout project. She is a church deacon and volunteers for the church vacation bible school. Kristin is a member of Upper Mountain Skating Association, and their Chill & Grace Synchronized Open Juvenile Team. She discovered scuba diving in 2004 and has managed to log in 60 dives in 9 countries, earning her Jr. Open Water Certification, Advanced Open Water Certification and Rescue Diver Certification, complete with Emergency First Response, First Aid and CPR She writes “Becoming a rescue diver has made me more aware of my surroundings, my actions and of others around me, helped me to think and react in stressful situations, and has helped me to become more responsible for myself and others.” |

KRYSTAL LI A junior at Millburn High School and resident of Short Hills, Krystal has earned a 3.79 GPA. She is co- committee chair of students activities with the Key Club, a member of the Debate Club and a member of the Skating Club. She volunteers at the Millburn Public Library and with Special Olympics. Krystal represents Essex Figure Skating Club and has passed both senior Moves in the Field and Free Skating tests. She competes locally and is a proud member of her high school's 2009 Championship team. In her essay, she states: “My skating experience has taught me to appreciate the importance of the collective efforts. This is not to say an individual cannot achieve anything. But as Helen Keller put it: “Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much.” |

ELIZABETH GIARDINA A member of Skating Club of Morris and the Precisely Right Synchronized Team has qualified her to go to the US National Synchronized Team Championships as an intermediate team Co-Captain in 2007 & 2008 and a junior team Captain in 2009 & 2010. She has passed the Junior Moves in the Field test. Elizabeth is a senior at Lakeland Regional High School. This Haskell resident earned a 4.25 GPA. As an Advanced Placement student, she is a member of the National Honor Society, a winner of the Gifted and Talented Program, a member of a model congress in her sophomore year, a member of Art Club, the Dance Club, French Club, Lancer Ledger and Pheonix Literary Magazine. In 2007 – 2008, she was employed as wait staff at Cedar Crest Retirement Home and in August of 2009 worked as a nanny. Elizabeth volunteers at Cody Arena, teaching challenged skaters, assisting in 2009 Special Olympics, mentors to beginner skaters with Precisely Right, assists during test sessions. She plays the guitar and is a published poet. Writing a future article for January, 1, 2030, she imagines a quote ““I'm very happy with the progress we have made with this piece of legislation,” expressed Secretary of Health and Human Services, Mitt Romney. “It has proven that America cares about her citizens as much as she cares about her economy,” making a joke about the financial disaster earlier this century. “
